My experience with the Can-Am Outlander 850 on challenging trails shows its performance comes from its strong powertrain. The machine has a liquid-cooled 854cc Rotax V-twin engine that puts out 78 horsepower. The powerplant has proven reliable on terrain of all types during my time testing it.

The engine delivers power smoothly because of the new PDrive clutch equipped transmission system. The CVT has much less belt lash, which makes acceleration from a stop more controlled [2]. The refined gear selection system uses optimized CVT ratios that engage better at lower speeds and help the belt last longer.
